North Turramurra NSW Church of Christ

North Turramurra Church of Christ is located on Sydney’s North Shore between the centres of Hornsby and St Ives. The suburb has a village feel, with the local shopping strip home to several cafes, coffee shops and other eateries where the community gathers. North Turramurra has five retirement villages/nursing homes as well as a primary and a high school.

The church, which last year celebrated its 50th anniversary, has a modern chapel seating around 150, as well as a large hall, commercial kitchen, several meeting rooms and three offices. The membership of around 50 has been without a regular minister for over 12 months and has seen some decline in numbers. Under the leadership of our part time youth minister the children’s ministry continues to thrive although the majority of the membership fit into an older demographic.

We are excited about the opportunities for church growth within the community. Details of the position are as follows:

  • Preach at the services of the church as necessary.
  • Assist the leadership of the youth, family and children ministries in the spiritual development of their charges.
  • Initiate and oversee bible study & small groups for the “equipment of the saints” (Ephesians 4:12) encouraging unity & fellowship.
  • Lead and manage the pastoral care ministry team.
  • Explore and implement outreach to seniors in the general community and amongst the local retirement villages.
  • Explore activities targeted at attracting young adults, enriching their fellowship and commitment to the church.

  • Bachelor of Theology degree or equivalent.
  • Commitment to the values of the church as expressed in its constitution and website.
  • Previous experience in ministry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathetic and approachable.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Effective counselling skills.
  • A passion for evangelism.
  • Musical aptitude would be a welcome bonus.

Remuneration will be based on the Churches of Christ NSW (Fresh Hope) guidelines.

Dear Friends,

As you may be aware, the North Turramurra Church of Christ has traditionally celebrated its Anniversary in the month of August.  The date we have set for this year’s Anniversary celebration, our 51st, is Sunday 21st August.  I am writing to invite you to join us for these celebrations.

Our morning service will commence at 9.45 am.  The guest speaker for this service will be Dr. Andrew Ball, the Executive Ministry Director for Fresh Hope, the Conferences of Churches of Christ in New South Wales.  Dr. Ball’s theme will be "Future Church - Creating Environments for Transformation."  The service will be followed by light refreshments.

Our evening service, to be held in the church hall, will commence at 5.00 pm.  The theme for this service will be "Celebrating Community."  It will not be a "traditional" service.  There will be some children’s activities, a time of worship, and a celebration of community around the meal table.

We would be pleased if you could join us at either, or both, of these services.

Kind regards

Geoff Hall
Interim Minister
North Turramurra Church of Christ
