What is church like at North Turramurra Church of Christ?

What do you expect at church?What do you expect at church?

If you haven't been to church before, or it's been a while, you might not know what to expect. The most important thing to know is that you are warmly welcome at North Turramurra Church of Christ, regardless of what you believe or what life is like for you.

We're just a group of ordinary people who meet regularly to worship God and go through life together. We are different ages and have different cultural backgrounds. We enjoy getting together, and would love to share with you too.

You might not know this about church

  • You're welcome: You are warmly welcome regardless of your beliefs or lifestyle. Jesus said not to judge others (Luke 6:37) - who are we to argue?
  • Stereotypes: Church really isn't full of the stuffy, unhappy, mean spirited people you see on TV. Forget the stereotypes. Find out what it's really like to spend time focussing on God with others.
  • Who goes: We're a diverse mix of ages, groups and nationalities, but united as believers in Jesus.

What actually happens at church?

  • Music: Praising God with a mix of traditional and modern songs. Gospel jazz or youth rock at special services.
  • Prayer: Talking to God about what's on our hearts - personal, national and world issues. Request personal prayer for healing or anything else.
  • Communion: Remembering Jesus' death for us, as described in Luke 22:19-20. Everyone wishing to honour Jesus this way is welcome to share in some crackers and grape juice.
  • Offering: Completely voluntary gift from your own heart to God if you wish (2 Cor 9:7). Those who wish to can contribute to the work of the church and other causes.
  • Message: Learning about life, the Bible and God. A roughly 25 minute message from a minister or guest.
  • Friendship: Getting to know others over morning tea or supper.

Reasons to come to church

  • To meet God: Experience God's love and find out just who Jesus is. Get great peace by being forgiven and knowing God loves you utterly.
  • To find friends: Meet friendly people who genuinely care about you.
  • To get help: Find support for whatever is happening in your life.
  • To find meaning: Delve deeper into life and find out what it's all about. Learn about God and the hopes and plans He has for you.
